Wildfire love in 2007

We reviewed the year past and planned for the future. In the glorious surrounds of Halswell house we laughed, we cried, then we got extremely merry. After a fantastic meal in the banquet hall created by the skilled hands of Dougal and Ash no less, we moved on to the ballroom. As a company we learned a lot from the ensuing festivities.

  1. We are prone to dance offs.
  2. Frank may not actually be Frank’s real name.
  3. Matt is the coolest person in Wildfire.
  4. Matt also has a penchant for wearing dresses.
  5. Gabie can limbo dance.
  6. Darragh thinks he can do the splits but his legs don’t believe him.
  7. Hot tubs on the roofs of stately homes are really cool.
  8. Er… four legs good, two legs bad… don’t ask.
  9. And we worked out our plan for world domination in 2008.

Anyway enough teasing check out the pics here. If you get a chance we really recommend checking out Halswell house, it is truly fantastic.

Adoption UK Credits Wildfire Communications in Charity Times Award Nomination

Great work spreads like, well, … ‘wildfire’ as Wildfire Communications makes the shortlist in the “Best Use of Technology” category for this year’s Charity Times Awards for their continued work on the Adoption UK site.

”Having produced and won ‘Charity Website of the Year’ in 2004 when we first launched this site, we’re thrilled to have been nominated again this year,” said Ashley Howden, Managing Director at Wildfire. “Making the shortlist not only reflects the innovation and professionalism behind the site’s online advances, but also the way in which we have been able to keep the Adoption UK members at the centre of all of these advances.”

Wildfire revamps Student123

From Design Week

Veteran on-line community Student123.com is being relaunched this week with revamped technology and editorial content designed to compete with other popular networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Bebo.

Bristol-based media company Wildfire Communications is behind the revamp, which, it says, was designed to bring the site into the 21st century.

‘Student123 had been going for almost nine years and other technologies had overtaken it,’ explains Wildfire managing director Ashley Howden. ‘Today the new site has been reborn using the latest Web 2.0 social networking framework, so now users can upload their own profiles and content, and interact with each other.’

Aside from its social functions, Student123 also has a range of regularly updated articles, music, quizzes, comedy features and graduate jobs.

‘Sites like Facebook are sensational,’ says Howden, ‘but there is very little editorial focus, whereas Student123 is an established, niche brand that people can actually buy into.’

Wildfire also runs specialist on-line communities for Adoption UK, Ocean Estate Agents and BBC Comedy Soup.

Wildfire present to PPA

Online issues are at the top of the agenda for most publishers. This joint event with IPAC was one of the many forums where PPAi, the interactive arm of the PPA, will share their online expertise and experience with other PPA groups.

Independent publishers were told to believe that the market will evolve and it that it will be truly cross-media in the future. Using editorial, reviews and news users can be attracted to websites, and then become loyal through community tools. Social networking is evolving and is already part of many consumers’ lives and publishers can link into many of the current online social communities and build on their success.

Darragh Field spoke about imagineanimation.net, the Web 2.0 networking community launched alongside bi-monthly magazine Imagine for the animation industry. Wildfire has successfully provided users with the opportunity to engage with each other beyond forums. Editors were encouraged to produce blogs: “Little and often is the key to keeping the community alive”. Field echoed Tapp’s views that publishers do not need to reinvent the wheel but integrate with what’s currently there, for example integrating with YouTube videos for linking to users’ professional showreels. Field argued that “Use is far more important than content or design.”

PPAinteractive (PPAi) is the interactive arm of PPA. It represents the interests of magazine publishers in the online arena. All PPA members are automatic members of PPAi and invited to take part in quarterly meetings, incorporating networking and discussion.
